Bromhexine Elixir is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus to help clear chest congestion. This relieves chesty coughs and breathing difficulties due to excess mucus in cold, flu, and respiratory tract infections.

Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have a persistent or chronic cough such as coughs due to smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema (a form of lung disease), or stomach ulcers.
Q. How will I know if Bromhexine Elixir is working?
When you take this medicine, you may notice an increase in thin watery mucus from your air passages. This is an indication that it is working as it is helping to remove mucus by making it easier to cough up.

Studies have shown that the early administration of oral bromhexine is associated with a reduced rate of symptomatic COVID-19, reduces the ICU transfer, and the mortality rate in patients with COVID-19.

To reduce your risk of experiencing irritation of the esophagus, it's important to take this medicine with plenty of water and to avoid lying down for at least half an hour after taking them. The amount of water needed can also depend on the dosage form.
