Bromhexine Elixir is a mucolytic medication. It thins and loosens mucus (phlegm) in the nose, windpipe and lungs making it easier to cough out.

  • Bromhexine helps in thinning and removal of the mucus (slimy and sticky substance) from the airways, thereby treats various respiratory conditions.
  • Inform your doctor if you have suffered or are currently suffering from any stomach, liver or kidney problem.

Bromhexine Elixir is a mucolytic that thins and loosens mucus to help clear chest congestion. This relieves chesty coughs and breathing difficulties due to excess mucus in cold, flu, and respiratory tract infections.
Q. What should I inform my doctor before taking Bromhexine Elixir?
Before taking this medicine, inform your doctor if you have a persistent or chronic cough such as coughs due to smoking, asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema (a form of lung disease), or stomach ulcers.
Q. How will I know if Bromhexine Elixir is working?
When you take this medicine, you may notice an increase in thin watery mucus from your air passages. This is an indication that it is working as it is helping to remove mucus by making it easier to cough up.

Q. Is bromhexine good for Covid?
Studies have shown that the early administration of oral bromhexine is associated with a reduced rate of symptomatic COVID-19, reduces the ICU transfer, and the mortality rate in patients with COVID-19.
Q. Is Bromhexine Elixir good for dry cough?
No. Bromhexine Elixir is more effective in the treatment of productive cough associated with thickened mucus. Consult your doctor to prescribe you the right medication for dry cough.
Q. Does Bromhexine Elixir make you drowsy?
This medicine may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people. If you have any of these symptoms, do not drive, operate machinery or do anything else that could be dangerous.

Although no interactions were found between Bromhexine Elixir and Paracetamol, it is always advisable to consult your doctor before taking any medicines along with Bromhexine Elixir. Never self medicate as it can be risky.
Q. Should we drink water after taking Bromhexine Elixir?
To reduce your risk of experiencing irritation of the esophagus, it's important to take this medicine with plenty of water and to avoid lying down for at least half an hour after taking them. The amount of water needed can also depend on the dosage form.
Q. Along with taking Bromhexine Elixir, what other tips should I follow to get relief from congestion?
Along with taking Bromhexine Elixir, drink plenty of warm fluids (soup, water, herbal tea), gargle with saline water, avoid smoking, alcohol, caffeine, oily food, and take a healthy diet.
