એટ્રિપિન એન્ટીકોલાઇનર્જીક નામની દવાઓની શ્રેણી સાથે સંબંધ ધરાવે છે. તે શરીરમાં રસાયણો (એસિટાઇલકોલાઇન)ની પ્રવૃત્તિને અવરોધે છે જેથી વિભિન્ન પ્રકારની અસરો થાય છે જેમકે લાળ અને અન્ય શારિરીક સ્ત્રાવોને ઓછા કરવા, ખેંચાણને કારણે પેટના દુખાવામાં રાહત આપવા, હ્રદયના ધબકારામાં વૃદ્ધિ થવી અને આંખની કીકીનું પહોળુ થઈ જવું.
