ફ્લોરોમેથોલોન સિન્થેટિક કોર્ટિકો સ્ટિરોઇડ (ગ્લુકોકોર્ટિકોઈડ) નામની દવાઓની શ્રેણી સાથે સંબંધ ધરાવે છે. ફ્લોરોમેથોલોન તેના રિસેપ્ટરોની સાથે બંધાઇ જાય છે અને અમુક વિશેષ રસાયણોના ઉત્પાદનને નિયંત્રિત કરે છે જે શરીરમાં સોજા નુ નિર્માણ કરે છે અને આમ સોજા સંબંધિત પ્રતિક્રિયાઓ (જેમકે ફૂલાવો, ફાઈબ્રિન [લોહી ગંઠાવવાની પ્રક્રિયામાં સમાવિષ્ટ પ્રોટીનનો પ્રકાર]જામવું, કોષોનું ફેલાવુ, ફેગોસાઇટ [મોટા સફેદ રક્તકોષ કે જે સુક્ષ્મજીવી અને અન્ય બાહરી કણોને ગળી જઈ તેમને પચાવી શકે છે]નું સ્થળાંતર)ને અટકાવે છે.
