What are the symptoms of folate deficiency?
Symptoms of folate deficiency can include weakness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, headache, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, soreness in and shallow ulcerations on the tongue and oral mucosa, changes in skin, hair, or fingernail pigmentation, gastrointestinal symptoms, elevated blood concentrations of homocysteine.

What are the health risks of folate deficiency?
Folate deficiency can lead to megaloblastic anaemia, which is characterized by abnormally large, nucleated red blood cells. It can also increase the risk of placental abruption, preterm birth, low birth weight, and the development of autism in babies. Other complications can include fatigue, pale skin, sore mouth and tongue, and an increased risk of neural tube defects during pregnancy.
