Product Details
Bos Medicare Surgical Outlet Forceps Stainless Steel
Outlet forceps are small forceps used for lift-out deliveries and at caesarean sections. They are used when the fetal scalp is visible without separating the labia, and the fetal skull has reached the pelvic floor. Crafted from high-grade stainless steel, ensuring durability, rust resistance, and long-term reliability.

Uses:
  • Assists in deliveries during the second stage of labour

Colour: Silver

Product Weight: 200gram

Product Specifications and Features:
  • Forceps can also be used as a safe alternative to shorten the second stage of labour in high-risk pregnancies
  • The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (2015) recommends forceps and vacuum extractors are said to have a low risk of complications and are acceptable for operative vaginal delivery
  • It is rust-resistant for extended use
  • Durable and long-lasting

Directions For Use:
  • Forceps are applied from below the fetal head while sitting, with traction force coming from the forearms, not the chest. The left blade is usually placed first, and the operator's right hand is fitted between the fetal head and the left vaginal side wall. The left blade is placed by holding the handle at 12 o'clock and rotating counterclockwise as the blade slips between the fetal head and the operator's right hand
  • The two blades are then locked, and the baby is delivered with gentle (maximum 30 lbf or 130 Newton) traction in the axis of the pelvis. The baby's head is checked and then rotated to the occiput anterior position if it is not already in that position. An episiotomy may be performed if necessary
  • Forceps delivery may be indicated when:
  • There is a prolonged second stage
  • There is suspicion of immediate or potential fetal compromise in the second stage of labour
  • Maternal indications include exhaustion, bleeding, cardiac or pulmonary problems, and a history of spontaneous pneumothorax
  • Fetal malpositions, including the after-coming head in breech vaginal delivery

Safety Information:
  • Forceps delivery, also known as outlet forceps delivery, can have several risks and complications for the mother and baby. The mother may experience:
  • Vaginal tears: Also called episiotomy, these can be repaired with dissolvable stitches
  • Pelvic organ prolapse: This is more common with tears in the perineum
  • Incontinence: This can be urinary or anal
  • Increased postnatal recovery time and pain: This can also include difficulty evacuating
  • The baby may experience:
  • Increased risk of facial nerve injury
  • Increased risk of clavicle fracture
  • Increased risk of intracranial haemorrhage
  • Damage to cranial nerve VI, resulting in strabismus
  • Forceps should only be applied when the cervix is fully dilated, the fetal vertex is known, and the fetal vertex is engaged
