Q. My child is suffering from a seizure disorder. Can I give Altacef Suspension to my child?
Altacef Suspension may cause seizure activity, particularly in children who have kidney disease. So, Altacef Suspension should be used with caution in children with a history of seizure disorder. If seizures occur, discontinue Altacef Suspension and visit your child’s doctor right away.
Q. What if I give too much of Altacef Suspension by mistake?
An extra dose of Altacef Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you think you have given too much of Altacef Suspension to your child, immediately speak to a doctor.
Q. Are there any possible serious side effects of Altacef Suspension?
Some serious side effects of this medicine include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergy, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. Always consult your child’s doctor for help in such a situation.

The doctor may prescribe getting kidney function tests and liver function tests periodically to keep a check on your child’s condition.
Q. Does a common cold caused by viruses always result in a secondary bacterial infection? When to start an antibiotic to prevent infection?
In most cases, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics to treat viral infections may instead lead to side effects without benefiting your child's health. Hence, you must give antibiotics to your child only after consulting with your child’s doctor.
Q. Can Altacef Suspension impact my child’s digestion?
Antibiotics kill the infection-causing bacteria, but while doing this they may affect the good bacteria present in the gastrointestinal tract. As a result, your child may develop diarrhea or some other infections as well. Moreover, children have a more sensitive stomach than adults, so the likelihood of developing a stomach upset is more. In case your child is having diarrhea while on Altacef Suspension, do not stop the medicine course. Instead, call your child’s doctor to ask about the next steps. In some cases, the doctor may alter the dose.
Q. How long does Altacef Suspension take to work?
The amount of time Altacef Suspension takes to work depends on the type of infection and response of the patient to the medicine. The antibiotic may start working after you take it, but for maximum effect, it may require some time. Usually, the symptoms of bacterial infections start to decrease in 48 to 72 hours after starting the medication.
Q. How long should you take Altacef Suspension?
The duration of therapy with Altacef Suspension depends upon the type of infection. It is usually given for 7 days. It ranges from 5 to 10 days and depends on the response of the infection in the patient. Before starting the medication consult a doctor who will prescribe the exact duration of therapy and follow the instructions as given.
Q. Can Altacef Suspension be taken on an empty stomach?
No, Altacef Suspension should not be taken on an empty stomach like other antibiotics of its class. It should be taken twice daily after a meal. Taking Altacef Suspension with food increases the absorption rate of the drug. This further enhances the effectiveness of the medicine to treat the infection.
Q. Can Altacef Suspension treat UTI?
Yes, Altacef Suspension can be used to treat urinary tract infection (UTI). But, it is prescribed only in cases of uncomplicated UTIs for 7 to 10 days. The medication is to be prescribed by the doctor only, self-medication is not advised. The severity of the UTI decides the kind of therapy needed to treat it.
