Fluticasone Propionate is a steroid medicine. It works by blocking the production of certain chemical messengers that make the skin red, swollen and itchy due to skin conditions such as atopic eczema, allergic contact dermatitis, and psoriasis.

Mupirocin is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria that cause skin infections by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins necessary for the survival of bacteria. Thus, it prevents the skin infection from spreading.

Q. What is Fluticasone Propionate? What is it used for?
Fluticasone Propionate belongs to a group of medicines called steroids, also known as corticosteroids. Fluticasone Propionate is used to treat various allergic skin conditions such as eczema and atopic dermatitis. Fluticasone Propionate effectively reduces symptoms associated with such conditions such as swelling, itching and redness.
Q. How does Fluticasone Propionate work?
Fluticasone Propionate works by decreasing the inflammation caused by allergies. It reduces inflammation by blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause allergic symptoms such as swelling, redness and pain.
Q. How long does Fluticasone Propionate take to start working?
The time Fluticasone Propionate requires to start working differs from person to person. However, you may get relief within 8 hours of starting Fluticasone Propionate. It may even take several days before you see maximum benefits. In order to improve your symptoms faster, it is important to take the medicine regularly as it increases the efficiency.

Q. Is Fluticasone Propionate good for burns?
No, Fluticasone Propionate should never be applied in those areas of the skin that have burns, cuts or scrapes. If Fluticasone Propionate accidentally gets onto such areas, rinse the area thoroughly with water. It is advisable that you use this medicine only as directed by your doctor to avoid any adverse effects and worsening of your condition.
Q. How to use Fluticasone Propionate?
Before using Fluticasone Propionate, clean and dry the affected area. Gently and thoroughly massage it into the skin. Be careful not to get the medication in your eyes or mouth. If Fluticasone Propionate gets in your eyes accidentally, wash with plenty of water and call your doctor if your eyes are irritated.

Be careful not to get Fluticasone Propionate into your eyes or mouth. If you happen to get it in your eyes, rinse off with plenty of water immediately and contact your doctor. You must not use Fluticasone Propionate if you are allergic to it or any of its ingredients. Tell your doctor if you notice any allergic reaction while using it for the first time. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medicines regularly to prevent any allergic reaction with other medicines. Do not cover the area being treated with Fluticasone Propionate with a bandage, as this may increase absorption of this medicine and increase the side effects. Mupirocin

Q. Is Mupirocin used for diaper rash?
Mupirocin is an antibacterial medicine and will only help if the diaper rash is due to bacterial infection.
Q. For how long do I need to use Mupirocin?
Use Mupirocin for the duration advised by your doctor. The bacteria are normally cleared from your skin within 10 days of starting the treatment. It is not recommended to use this medicine for more than 10 days. If your skin condition does not improve within 3-5 days, see your doctor.
Q. How should I use Mupirocin?
Follow the directions given by your doctor carefully. Wash your hands before applying Mupirocin. Apply the ointment to the infected area of skin 2-3 times daily or as told by your doctor. You can cover the treated area with a dressing or leave it open as per your doctor’s advice.

Q. Can I apply Mupirocin on an open wound?
Consult your doctor before using Mupirocin on any type of wound. Avoid using Mupirocin for large open wounds if you have a kidney problem as this may further damage your kidneys.
Q. What if I do not get better after using Mupirocin?
Inform your doctor if your symptoms are getting worse while using this medicine. If you do not feel better after finishing the full course of treatment, consult your doctor.
Q. After I applied Mupirocin, I felt burning and stinging sensations. Should I stop using it?
Burning sensation is a common side effect of applying Mupirocin. However, stinging is uncommon. These side effects do not last long and will disappear after sometime. Do not stop using Mupirocin because of these mild side effects. If you have any concerns consult your doctor.
Q. In which areas of the skin should I avoid using Mupirocin?
Mupirocin should not be used to treat infections in or near the eyes, nostrils or mouth. If this medicine accidentally enters your eyes, wash the eyes thoroughly with water. In case you have tubes inserted in your body for the administration or removal of fluid (cannula), do not use this medicine to treat the skin near that area. Additionally, do not use it in combination with a cannula.
Q. What should prompt me to stop using Mupirocin?
Wash off the ointment immediately if you faint, get a raised and itchy rash, cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty breathing and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, throat or other parts of the body. These may be signs of a severe allergic reaction. You should immediately stop using Mupirocin and consult your doctor. Though unlikely, but if you get abdominal cramps and diarrhea, you should stop using Mupirocin immediately and consult your doctor.
