ट्राईहेक्सीफेनीडाइल एक एंटीकोलाइनर्जिक एजेंट है जो तंत्रिकाओं पर एसिटाइलकोलाइन नामक एक केमिकल के कार्य को अवरुद्ध करता है जो चिकनी मांसपेशियों को शिथिल करता है; इस तरह, यह मांसपेशियों के ऐंठन (किसी मांसपेशी या मांसपेशियों के किसी समूह का अचानक अनैच्छिक संकुचन), कंपकंपी (अनियंत्रित थरथराहट) और पार्किन्सन रोग से संबंधित अत्यधिक लार की कठोरता को कम करता है।
