Zinc is used in the treatment of nutritional deficiencies.

How zinc works

Zinc is a micro mineral. It maintains mucous lining in the stomach. It also promotes water and electrolyte absorption in the body. It also increases the circulation of enzymes, which act against infections like diarrhea. It enhances the immunity by increasing immune boosting cells. This is how it works in resisting infections such as diarrhea.

Expert advice for Zinc

  • Do not take Zinc on an empty stomach to avoid possible minor stomach upset.
  • Let your doctor know if you are taking any other medications, like antihypertensives, antibiotics, or medicines for heart disease or bone disorders.
  • Avoid taking antacids 2 hours before or after taking Zinc, as they make it harder for your body to absorb this medicine.
  • Do not take any iron supplements along with this medicine because iron may interfere with zinc absorption.
