Zanamivir is used in the treatment and prevention of influenza (flu). It is also used in the treatment of H1N1 influenza (Swine flu).

How zanamivir works

Zanamivir is an anti influenza (virus) medicine. It contains neuraminidase, which prevent the growth of influenza viruses. This is how it helps to treat influenza flu.

Joint pain, Chills, Fever, Dizziness, Nausea, Vomiting, Sinus inflammation, Abdominal pain, Diarrhea, Headache, Cough, Ear, nose, and throat (ENT) infections, General discomfort, Fatigue, Bronchitis (inflammation of the airways), Muscle pain, Urticaria, Asthma, Ear, nose, and throat hemorrhage, Articular rheumatism, Bronchospasm, Breathlessness

    • Zanamivir helps in the treatment and prevention of flu.
    • It is for inhalation only. Do not take it by mouth.
    • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the symptoms of flu to come back.
    • Take it as soon as possible, ideally within two days of starting of flu symptoms.
    • It is not a substitute for flu vaccination. You might be prescribed both by your doctor.
