Tioconazole is an antifungal medication. It kills and stops the growth of the fungi by destroying its cell membrane, thereby treating your skin infection.

  • Tioconazole helps treat vaginal fungal infections. It reduces vaginal burning, itching, and discharge.
  • It is inserted into the vagina using an applicator, usually at night before going to bed.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
  • It can damage condoms and diaphragms and make them ineffective at preventing pregnancy. Ask your doctor about other suitable methods of preventing pregnancy.
  • It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.

The duration of the treatment depends on the type of infection. In general, the treatment is continued for 1 month for tinea infection and at least 15 days for candida infection. Do not stop the treatment on your own even if you feel better because the infection may come back as it takes some time to kill the fungus completely.

Tioconazole is safe for use in children provided it is used in the recommended doses for the recommended period of time. Minor side effects may occur but usually they do not become bothersome. However, if you develop a burning sensation or areas of severe redness, itching, then stop the medicine and contact your doctor.
