Tegaserod indirectly stimulates the release of acetylcholine, a chemical messenger that can increase the motility of the intestine.

- Tegaserod should be taken on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before a meal.
- It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how it affects you.
- Diarrhea may occur as a side effect. Drink plenty of fluids and inform your doctor if it does not stop.
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Do not stop taking this medication without talking to your doctor first.
