Tegafur uses

Tegafur is used in the treatment of cancer of colon and rectum.

How tegafur works

Tegafur interferes with the growth of DNA and RNA of the cancer cells by substituting their building blocks. It prevents the cancer cells from growing and multiplying.

Common side effects of tegafur

Nausea, Vomiting, Weakness, Loss of appetite, Low blood platelets, Increased risk of infection, Decreased white blood cell count, Bronchospasm, Diarrhea, Stomatitis (Inflammation of the mouth), Esophagitis, Inflammation of the rectum
