Silver Sulfadiazine+Chlorhexidine Gluconate+Metronidazole is used in the treatment of burns.

How silver sulfadiazine + chlorhexidine gluconate + metronidazole works

This is a combination of two antibiotics (Silver Sulfadiazine, Metronidazole) and an antiseptic (Chlorhexidine Gluconate). The antibiotics kill the bacteria and other microorganisms that infect a burn or wound. The antiseptic works by binding strongly with skin in order to effectively clean out the area and prevent it from getting infected again.

Application site reactions (burning, irritation, itching and redness), Transient increase in white blood cell count (eosinophils)

Expert advice for Silver Sulfadiazine + Chlorhexidine Gluconate + Metronidazole

  • Clean the affected area and then apply the cream to using a sterile gloved hand or a sterile spatula.
  • Apply it once or twice daily and re-apply to any areas from which it gets removed due to activity. Burn areas should be covered with the cream at all times.
  • It may cause minor burning, stinging or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the cream in these areas.
