Pyrazinamide+Isoniazid+Rifampicin+Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) is used in the treatment of tuberculosis.

How pyrazinamide + isoniazid + rifampicin + vitamin b6 (pyridoxine) works

This is a combination of four medicines: Pyrazinamide, isoniazid, rifampicin and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) which treat tuberculosis (TB). Pyrazinamide works by slowing the growth of TB bacteria. Isoniazid prevents the TB bacteria from forming their own protective covering, while rifampicin works by inactivating a bacterial enzyme (RNA-polymerase) which is required by these bacteria to make essential proteins and to reproduce. Together, they kill the bacteria and eradicate the infection. Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is added to prevent nerve damage which may be a side effect of isoniazid.

Nausea, Vomiting, Rash, Fever, Dark colored urine, Sweating, Increased sputum production, Salivation, Watery eyes, Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hand), Increased liver enzymes, Jaundice, Increased uric acid level in blood

Expert advice for Pyrazinamide + Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

  • Pyrazinamide + Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) must be taken on an empty stomach at the same time every day.
  • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Stopping it early may make the infection come back and harder to treat.
  • Discontinue Pyrazinamide + Isoniazid + Rifampicin + Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.
  • It is advisable to drink plenty of fluids and a healthy diet while taking the medicine.
  • It may cause dizziness. Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how medicine affects you.
