How pegylated interferon beta 1a works

Interferons are proteins that occur naturally in the immune system. Beta interferon 1A works by suppressing both inflammation and abnormal immune response to slow down disease progression in multiple sclerosis. Polyethylene glycol is added to prolong the effect of beta interferon 1A in the body.
