Nicoumalone is used in the treatment and prevention of heart attack, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, stroke prevention and blood clots. It is also used after artificial heart valve implantaion.
How nicoumalone works
Nicoumalone is an oral anticoagulant. It acts by preventing the formation of harmful blood clots. Although it does not dissolve the existing blood clots, it inhibits them from growing larger and causing serious problems.
