Metronidazole+Diloxanide+Polydimethyl Siloxane is used in the treatment of diarrhea and dysentery.

How metronidazole + diloxanide + polydimethyl siloxane works

This is a combination of three medicines: Metronidazole, Diloxanide and Polydimethyl Siloxane. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which kills bacteria and other infectious microorganisms by damaging their DNA. Diloxanide is a luminal amoebicide which acts inside the intestines to kill the infection-causing microorganisms (amoeba). It is added in case of severe intestinal infections. Polydimethyl Siloxane is an antifoaming medicine which disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

    • Metronidazole + Diloxanide + Polydimethyl Siloxane should be taken with or without food but at the same time every day.
    • Do not skip any doses and finish the full course of treatment even if you feel better.
    • Do not drink alcohol during or for 2-3 days after treatment with this medicine. You may develop nausea, vomiting, flushing and headache.
    • It is advisable to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water to overcome medicine side effects.
    • Inform your doctor if you have liver disease. Your dose may need to be adjusted in severe liver disease.
