Lignocaine

Information about Lignocaine

Lignocaine uses

Lignocaine is used for local anesthesia, Arrhythmia, piles and mouth ulcers.

How lignocaine works

Lidocaine stabilizes the neuronal membrane by inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of impulses thereby effecting local anesthetic action. Lidocaine alters signal conduction in neurons by blocking the fast voltage gated sodium (Na+) channels in the neuronal cell membrane that are responsible for signal propagation.

Common side effects of lignocaine

Convulsion, Dizziness, Hypotension (low blood pressure), Slow heart rate, Vomiting, Nausea, Tremors, Breathlessness, Bronchospasm, Ringing in ear, Blurred vision, Hypersensitivity reaction, Methemoglobinemia (presence of methemoglobin in the blood)
