Levosulpiride+Dimethicone is used in the treatment of constipation.

How levosulpiride + dimethicone works

This is a combination of two medicines: Levosulpiride and Dimethicone. Levosulpiride is a prokinetic which works by increasing the release of acetylcholine (a chemical messenger). This increases the movement of stomach and intestines, and prevents reflux (acid going up to the food pipe). Dimethicone is an antifoaming medicine which disintegrates gas bubbles and allows easy passage of gas.

Increased prolactin level in blood, Insomnia (difficulty in sleeping), Sedation, Extrapyramidal symptoms, Akathisia (inability to stay still), Constipation, Increased liver enzymes, Maculopapular rash, Unusual production of breast milk in women and men, Absence of menstrual periods, Breast enlargement in male, Breast enlargement, Breast pain, Orgasmic dysfunction, Erectile dysfunction, Hypotension (low blood pressure), Ventricular arrhythmia

Expert advice for Levosulpiride + Dimethicone

  • Levosulpiride + Dimethicone is prescribed for short-term relief from constipation.
  • It should preferably be taken at bedtime as it requires 6 to 8 hours to show effect.
  • Take it at least 2 hours after taking other medicines, as it may interfere with the absorption of other medicines.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of stomach disorders such as appendicitis or a blockage in your bowel.
  • Do not take any other laxative along with Levosulpiride + Dimethicone without consulting your doctor.
  • Some healthy tips to prevent constipation from happening:
    1. Eat more fiber in your diet; recommended daily intake is 20-35g.
    2. Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day.
    3. Exercise regularly at least 3 times per week.
    4. Do not hold in stool as that can worsen bowel issues.
