Flucytosine uses

Flucytosine is used in the treatment of severe fungal infections. It is used with other antifungal medicines to treat systemic yeast and fungal infections (cryptococcal meningitis and severe systemic candidiasis).

How flucytosine works

Flucytosine kills and slows the growth of fungus by interfering with protein and DNA synthesis.

Gastrointestinal symptom, Allergic reaction, Azotemia (increased nitrogen containing compounds level in blood), Increased blood urea nitrogen, Increased creatinine level in blood, Crystals in urine, Renal failure, Cardiac arrest, Myocardial toxicity, Ventricular dysfunction, Abnormality of voluntary movements, Hearing loss, Parkinsonism, Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hand), Hallucination, Psychosis, Fatigue, Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), Decreased potassium level in blood, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Decreased appetite, Dryness in mouth, Duodenal ulcer, Gastrointestinal bleeding, Liver injury
