Estramustine is used in the treatment of prostate cancer.

How estramustine works

Estramustine belongs to a class of anticancer/cytotoxic drugs called antimicrotubule agents.  It works by interfering with production of certain proteins which are necessary for tumor cell growth and reproduction. It also increases the estrogen levels, which in turn interferes with prostate cancer by slowing/stopping the growth of cancer cells.

Nausea, Vomiting, Anemia (low number of red blood cells), Diarrhea, Breast enlargement in male, Low blood platelets, Headache, Angioedema (swelling of deeper layers of skin), High blood pressure, Decreased white blood cell count (lymphocytes), Fluid retention, Heart failure, Liver dysfunction, Myocardial infarction, Embolism, Hypersensitivity, Confusion, Depression, Myocardial ischemia, Injection site thrombosis, Muscle weakness, Erectile dysfunction
