Cisplatin is used in the treatment of ovarian cancer, cervical cancer and testicular cancer.

How cisplatin works

Cisplatin is an anti-cancer medication. It works by damaging the genetic material (DNA and RNA) of the cancer cells which stops their growth and multiplication.

Common side effects of cisplatin

Nausea, Vomiting, Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hand), Hair loss, Renal toxicity, Myelosuppression, Ototoxicity, Positive Coombs test, Venous thromboembolism, Cerebrovascular accident, Ventricular dysfunction, Optic neuritis, Blurred vision, Retinitis pigmentosa, Gastrointestinal perforation, General discomfort, Weakness, Elevations of aminotransferases, lactate dehydrogenase, and bilirubin, Liver failure, Anaphylactic reaction, Hypotension (low blood pressure), Tachycardia, Fibrosis, Edema (swelling), Decreased magnesium level in blood, Tumor lysis syndrome, Muscle cramp, Pneumonitis, Interstitial lung disease, Pulmonary embolism, SIADH (water retention due to excessive ADH)
