Chlorpropamide+Phenformin is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.

How chlorpropamide + phenformin works

This is a combination of two anti-diabetic medicines: Chlorpropamide and Phenformin. Chlorpropamide works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas in order to lower the blood glucose. Phenformin works by lowering glucose production in the liver, delaying glucose absorption from intestines and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. Together, they lower your blood glucose effectively.

Hypoglycemia (low blood glucose level), Taste change, Stomach pain, Diarrhea, Headache, Upper respiratory tract infection, Lactic acidosis

  • Chlorpropamide + Phenformin is prescribed to lower your blood sugar level.
  • Take Chlorpropamide + Phenformin just after a meal or with a snack to avoid stomach problems.
  • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur when taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or by delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief.
  • If you get unusually thirsty, pass urine more frequently, and feel tired, you should let your doctor know. These are signs that there is too much sugar in your blood and your dose may need adjusting.
