Benzocaine+Metronidazole is used in the treatment of mouth ulcers.

How benzocaine + metronidazole works

This is a combination of two medicines: Benzocaine and Metronidazole which treat mouth sores (ulcers). Benzocaine is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases pain sensation in the mouth. Metronidazole is an antibiotic which kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause gum disease, ulcers and other mouth infections by damaging bacterial DNA.

Expert advice for Benzocaine + Metronidazole

  • It may take several weeks to show its action. Keep using it as suggested by your doctor.
  • Wash your skin with a mild cleanser and pat it dry before applying Benzocaine + Metronidazole.
  • Apply it as a thin layer onto a clean, dry, unbroken infected area of skin.
  • It may cause minor burning, stinging or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if this does not go away.
  • Avoid contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. Rinse it off with water if you accidentally get the cream in these areas.
