Benzocaine+Chlorhexidine Gluconate is used in the treatment of mouth ulcers.

How benzocaine + chlorhexidine gluconate works

This is a combination of two medicines: Benzocaine and Chlorhexidine Gluconate. Benzocaine is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking pain signals from the nerves to brain which decreases sensation of pain. Chlorhexidine Gluconate is an antiseptic and disinfectant. It works by binding to the surface of teeth, inner cheeks and gums. This kills the infectious microorganisms that cause gum disease, ulcers, and other mouth infections.

  • Avoid eating and drinking immediately after applying Benzocaine + Chlorhexidine Gluconate.
  • Avoid putting dentures or braces back for half an hour after applying the gel in your mouth.
  • Use a soft toothbrush after consulting your dentist.
  • Avoid spicy foods, acidic fruit drinks, and very salty foods (such as crisps) that can make the pain and stinging worse.
  • Do not smoke while using Benzocaine + Chlorhexidine Gluconate, as it might cause some side effects.
  • Consult your doctor if your pain does not improve after using this medication for 7-14 days or the symptoms get worse.
