Basiliximab uses

Basiliximab is used for prevention of kidney transplant rejection. It is usually taken with other medicines such as cyclosporin and corticosteroids.

How basiliximab works

Basiliximab suppresses the activity of body's immune system and prevents rejection of the kidney transplantation.

  • Basiliximab is given as an injection into the veins by a healthcare provider only.
  • The first dose is given 2 hours before transplantation and a second dose after 4 days of surgery.
  • Avoid taking any vaccination while on treatment with this medicine without doctor consultation.
  • Basiliximab may increase your susceptibility to infections. Inform your doctor if you get any signs of infection during treatment.
