How azithromycin + dexamethasone works

This is a combination of two medicines. Azithromycin is an antibiotic that works by preventing the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. Thus, it stops the bacteria from growing and prevents the infection from spreading. Dexamethasone is an anti-inflammatory medicine that inhibits certain chemical messengers such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes to reduce inflammation (redness and swelling) of the eyes. In this way, This treats conjunctivitis.

Expert advice for Azithromycin + Dexamethasone

  • Azithromycin + Dexamethasone must be used as per dose and duration suggested by the doctor.
  • If you wear soft contact lenses, remove them before putting in these eye drops and wait at least 15 minutes before putting your lenses back in.
  • Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution.
  • Azithromycin + Dexamethasone might cause blurring of vision. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • It is advisable to reduce screen time (by avoiding watching tv, or phone) and use sunglasses while going out into the sunlight.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.
