Uses

Aprepitant is used to prevent nausea and vomiting due to chemotherapy.

How it works

Aprepitant is an antiemetic medication. It works by blocking the action of a chemical messenger (neurokinin) in the brain that may cause nausea and vomiting during anti-cancer treatment (chemotherapy).

Common side effects

Dizziness, Hiccup, Fatigue, Weakness, Dehydration, Nausea, Abdominal pain, Decreased white blood cell count, Hair loss, Diarrhea, Decreased appetite, Flatulence, Dyspepsia, Increased alanine aminotransferase, Fungal infection of mouth, Pharyngitis, Anemia (low number of red blood cells), Febrile neutropenia, Decreased white blood cell count (neutrophils), Low blood platelets, Decreased potassium level in blood, Anxiety, Taste change, Peripheral neuropathy (tingling and numbness of feet and hand), Palpitations, Flushing (sense of warmth in the face, ears, neck and trunk), Hot flushes, Cough, Breathlessness, Oropharyngeal pain, Dryness in mouth, Burping, Gastritis, Gastro-esophageal reflux disease, Vomiting, Sweating, Rash, Musculoskeletal (bone, muscle or joint) pain, Peripheral edema, General discomfort, Weight loss, Increased aspartate aminotransferase, Increased alkaline phosphatase level in blood, Decreased sodium level in blood, Increased blood urea, Protein in urine, Angioedema (swelling of deeper layers of skin), Urticaria

  • Do not use it continuously for a long time.
