Polyvinyl Alcohol (Including Pvp) is used in the treatment of dry eyes.

How it works

Polyvinyl alcohol, a nonionic surfactant, is used as a stabilising agent, lubricant and as an agent to increase viscosity in pharmaceutical manufacturing. In eye preparations, polyvinyl alcohol is used to increase the viscosity and thereby prolonging contact time of the active ingredient with the eye. It is often found in artificial tears preparations for dry eye and in contact lens solutions.

  • Your doctor has prescribed Polyvinyl Alcohol (Including Pvp) to treat dry eye disease.
  • It stabilizes the natural tear film and maintains necessary lubrication so your eyes don’t get dry and irritated.
  • May require long-term use.
  • Apply pressure on the corner of the eye (close to the nose) for about 1 minute immediately after instilling the drop.
  • Wait for at least 5-10 minutes before delivering the next medication in the same eye to avoid dilution of this medicine.
  • Stinging sensation may occur for 1-2 minutes. Notify your doctor if it persists for longer.
  • Make sure to use within 4 weeks of opening the bottle.

You may experience visual disturbances and eye discharge while using this medicine. Blink several times after pouring the drops. Consult your doctor if not sure.

Povidone Iodine can be used as an antiseptic to treat or prevent infections in wounds such as ulcers, small burns or cuts, and other minor injuries. However, take special care if you are applying Povidone Iodine on open large wounds or where the skin is broken like burns. The reason being there may be a risk of excessive absorption of iodine in the blood which may increase to toxic levels.
Q. Will Povidone Iodine solution stain my skin or clothes?
Povidone Iodine has a natural golden brown color which stains the area where you have applied it. It does not however, permanently stain your skin and fingernails. The stain can be easily removed from your clothes with soap and water.
Q. Where can Povidone Iodine be used?
Povidone Iodine is used in the treatment and prevention of infection in wounds including cuts, small areas of burn, ulcers and minor injuries. Do not use this medicine on deep wounds and clean surgical wounds.

Q. How should Povidone Iodine solution be applied to an injury?
Clean the affected area and apply a small amount of the medicine to it. You can then cover it with a sterile bandage. You can apply this medicine 1 to 3 times daily. However, do not use it for longer than 1 week.
Q. Can Povidone Iodine affect thyroid function?
Using Povidone Iodine over a large area or for a long time may sometimes cause problems with your thyroid. Symptoms of thyroid dysfunction include weight loss, increased appetite, sweating, lack of energy, and weight gain. If you notice such symptoms, contact your doctor who may advise you to stop using Povidone Iodine.

Chlorbutol is used in different formulations such as cream, mouthwash and decongestant capsules.Cream: to treat mild pain caused by minor skin cuts, scratches and grazes (chapping) and soreness caused by detergents, soaps, deodorants and jewellery and bites and stings.Mouthwash solution: to inhibit dental plaque formation, as an aid in the treatment and prevention of irritation, redness, and swelling of gums (gingivitis), and in maintaining oral hygiene. It is important in the management of mouth ulceration and oral infections due to fungus candida and can be used as an adjuvant treatment for minor infections of the throat. It is also used as a disinfectant solution for cleansing of removable dentures.Capsule: for the symptomatic relief of colds and the symptomatic rapid relief of nasal congestion.
