Lidocaine is used for local anesthesia.

How it works

Lidocaine is a local anesthetic. It works by blocking the transmission of pain signals from the nerves to the brain. This helps to decrease the sensation of pain.

Metronidazole(1% w/w)

Uses

Metronidazole is used in the treatment of bacterial infections and parasitic infections. It is used in infections of the brain, reproductive system, gastrointestinal tract, skin, vagina, and other areas of the body.

How it works

Metronidazole is an antibiotic. It kills the bacteria and other microorganisms that cause infections by damaging their DNA.

Sucralfate is used in the treatment of intestinal ulcers and stomach ulcers.

How it works

Sucralfate forms a coating over the ulcer or any other raw surface. This creates a physical barrier that protects the ulcer/raw surface from the gastric acid or any other injury, allowing it to heal.

  • Lidocaine is prescribed to relieve itching and pain caused by scrapes, burns, rashes, bites and eczema.
  • Apply it over the affected area with a clean fingertip, three to four times a day or as directed by your doctor.
  • Do not apply it to broken or infected areas of skin, face, eyes or eyelids unless instructed to by your doctor.
  • Do not cover the area being treated with airtight dressings such as bandages unless directed by a doctor, as this may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, and nose. In case of accidental contact, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Consult your doctor if your skin condition has not improved after 2-4 weeks of treatment.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Lidocaine

Q. What is Lidocaine used for?

However, using more than what is recommended may lead to a number of serious health issues such as numbness of mouth and throat if swallowed. This can lead to difficulty swallowing and even choking.
Q. How long does it take for Lidocaine to work?
Lidocaine is applied at the start of a medical procedure and takes 3-5 minutes for the numbing effect to occur.

Q. Who should not be given Lidocaine?
Lidocaine should not be given to patients who are allergic to it, have decreased blood volume (hypovolemia), or complete heart block. If the solution also contains adrenaline, it should not be injected into a vein or used in areas such as fingers, toes, ears, nose or penis, as the blood supply to these areas may not be sufficient.

Metronidazole

Q. How long does Metronidazole take to work?
Usually, Metronidazole starts working within 1 hour of its ingestion. However, it may take around 2-3 days to make you feel better while taking Metronidazole. If you do not experience any significant reduction in your symptoms, consult your doctor.
Q. Can I drink alcohol while using Metronidazole?
No, avoid drinking alcohol while taking Metronidazole. Moreover, you should avoid alcohol even after 3 days of finishing the complete course. Drinking alcohol can cause an unpleasant reaction (disulfiram like reaction) with symptoms such as stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing or redness of the face.
Q. Can the use of Metronidazole cause metallic taste?
Yes, Metronidazole may cause a temporary metallic taste. This metallic taste can be reduced by staying hydrated, brushing teeth after the meals and chewing sugar-free gum or mints.

Q. What if I take more than the recommended dose of Metronidazole?
If you have taken Metronidazole in excess (more than the recommended dose), immediately contact your doctor or report to the nearest hospital. Overdose of Metronidazole may cause loss of appetite, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, insomnia or drowsiness.
Q. Can I stop taking Metronidazole when I feel better?
No, do not stop taking Metronidazole and complete the full course of treatment even if you feel better. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured. Hence, if you stop taking the medicine before completing the course, your infection may come back. Consult your doctor before you stop taking Metronidazole and follow their advice.
Q. What if there is no improvement after using Metronidazole?
Inform your doctor if you did not feel better after completing the full course of treatment. Also, inform him/her if your symptoms are getting worse during the treatment.
