Caldox Nasal Spray is a calcitonin receptor agonist. It acts by suppressing the activity of osteoclasts, cells that cause destruction of bone, thereby strengthening the bones and minimizing the risk of fractures.

  • It is used in women with osteoporosis who have undergone menopause.
  • It may cause temporary dizziness. Don't drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
  • Unopened bottles should be stored in the refrigerator. Once opened, they should be stored at room temperature for up to 35 days.
  • Stop using it and inform your doctor if you get any nosebleeds or notice any ulceration inside your nose.
  • Discontinue Calcitonin (Salmon) and inform your doctor immediately if you get a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or have difficulty in breathing.

Yes, an unopened bottle of Caldox Nasal Spray need to be refrigerated. It should be kept at a temperature between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze. After opening the bottle of Caldox Nasal Spray, store it at room temperature between 15°C and 30°C.

Caldox Nasal Spray contains calcitonin which is a hormone that is naturally produced by the thyroid gland and is responsible for maintaining calcium balance in the body. Caldox Nasal Spray decreases the bone loss and damage in patients with osteoporosis. In some cases, it also helps in bone formation by activating the bone forming cells, thereby increasing the bone density.
Q. Can Caldox Nasal Spray reduce the calcium levels in blood?
Yes, Caldox Nasal Spray can reduce the levels of calcium in the blood. If the calcium levels in your blood drop down severely then it can present with numbness or tingling in your fingers, toes, or around your mouth. The blood calcium levels need to be monitored in such cases. Immediately contact your doctor if you experience any such symptoms.

Q. How should I use Caldox Nasal Spray?
Follow the directions given by your prescriber and do ask him in case of any doubts. Usually, it is to be given in single nostril once daily. To start with we take 1 spray in left nostril on day 1, followed by right nostril on the second day. Continue to take the medicine inside the nose by switching nostrils every alternate day. Each bottle is set to deliver 30 doses. Do not use the bottle after 30 days.
Q. Is it fine to use Caldox Nasal Spray in pregnant women?
Generally, Caldox Nasal Spray is not recommended for pregnant women. However, enough evidence is not available to suggest risk associated with the use of Caldox Nasal Spray causing birth defects or miscarriage in pregnant women. Caldox Nasal Spray should be used in pregnant women with utmost caution. It is used only if the prescribing doctor finds potential benefit to be much larger than the risk involved.
