Nausea is an uneasy or unsettled feeling in the stomach together with an urge to vomit. Nausea and vomiting, or throwing up, are not diseases. They can be symptoms of many different conditions.

Common causes of nausea are:
1. Morning sickness during pregnancy
2. Infections
3. Migraine headaches
4. Motion sickness
5. Food poisoning
6. Cancer chemotherapy
7. Other medicines
 
Complications and When Should You See a Doctor
 
However, if it happens too often one must consult a doctor at the earliest. Complications may include:
1. Vomiting for longer than 24 hours
2. Blood in the vomit
3. Severe abdominal pain
4. Headache and stiff neck
5. Signs of dehydration, such as dry mouth, infrequent urination, or dark urine
 
Treatment and Prevention of Nausea
 
1. For nausea in children and adults, avoid heavy foods
2. Take small frequent meals
3. Include fruits and juices
4. Your doctor may recommend antiemetics and drinks to avoid dehydration.
