Increased potassium levels in blood, or hyperkalemia, can cause nerve, muscle and heart problems. Some causes are kidney failure, dehydration, burns, certain drugs, type 1 diabetes, Addison’s disease, etc. Symptoms of hyperkalemia may include weakness, numbness or tingling sensation, nausea, palpitations or irregular heartbeats, etc. Too much potassium in the blood can cause paralysis or heart failure.
